Welcome to our newest addition to the blog: Small Business Features! As a small business owner I know how time consuming it is to spread the word about our businesses. So, I'm starting this regular series featuring some of the amazing small businesses in our community. Be sure to visit them!
Our Vintage Emporia
Teresa Martin, Gena Aguilar Torres and Gale Schaefer
Tell everyone a bit about your business.
We are a one-of-a- kind boutique filled with new, vintage and handmade items. We specialize in furniture and home décor.
How did you come to start your business?
Gena and Gale started Our Vintage Garage. Teresa started Emporia. We merged together at our current location in 2017. It's a wonderful partnership mixed with vintage treasures and handmade unique items. The three of us have a passion for home décor, upcycling and design. We've had this business for one year but, individually, we've been in business many years.
Where do you hope your business will be in 5 years?
We hope to still be in the same location as a landmark shop in Glendora with an additional location in Orange County.
What’s your favorite part of running your own business?
Such. Cool. Treasures. It's amazing to find, build and create things. We get to do what we love. It's not always easy, and we each feel like we are working every day, all day, but it's worth it.
What’s one thing about being in business that you never expected?
The relationships we build with our customers. People really are kind and we enjoy meeting new people every day we are open.
What is the best business advice you’ve ever been given?
Another day, another dollar. My father used to say that to me every morning. I didn't really understand until I was older. You can spend some or you could make some. Entirely up to you.
What’s the current song you put on when you need to dance it out?
I will survive by Donna Summers . . . its not current but still a fav.
What’s the one app you could never remove from your phone?
Instagram its a great tool for advertising.
What’s your Starbucks order?
I had a sip of coffee when I was young and hated it. Haven't had any since. Coca Cola on the other hand . . .
Thank you Teresa, Gena and Gale for answering all my questions. Now, friends, it's our turn to visit this awesome store!
